I went to the premiere of the "Terminator Salvation" with open mind and a little less then enthusiastic as well as a little reservation, after all, mix reviews circulate the press around the world. I read somewhere blatantly said McG has ruined the franchise by making this 4th installment an apocalyptic.
So I went a close friend of mine, with not too much of an expectations as we both heard about the hype of this film.
Well to start with, all the past "Terminators" movies were about the robot from the future who somehow time traveled back in time to find and save "John Connor" the main character we all familiar with and care about. This 4th franchise much the same, though with a slight twitch. Instead of running from "Skynet", "Connor", played by Christian Bale now lead commend the Resistance to destroy "Skynet".
From the very first frame, audience were introduced a character names "Marcus Wright" who, played by Sam Worthington, not only we didn't realized that in this movie "Marcus Wright" and "John Connor" are both leads in it, in fact "Marcus Wright" Sam Worthington's character shines even above "Christian Bale". Now I do see why everyone in Hollywood are raving about this Aussie export.
This movie is really well made, the story of this particular film is very realistic as the time are post apocalyptic, given that the last film was more jokes and crashes bangs, is as if was made for the slow people "more of a comedy than action flick".
The McG version is set in year 2018 where T-800 was being manufactured, "Connor" is all grown up and married, and organizing an a war to destroy "Skynet" as it's the only way to rid the "Terminator" for good.
Along the way, he Met "Wright" who, "Connor" bonded with and made ally, despite the fact that "Connor" discovered "Wright" real identity. And of course they did survived the war in the end.
This movie McG made has taken out all the lame humor and silly wild goose chase from the last film, this time it's dead serious, the war is imminent. The sound and specially effect was way out there, but deep inside of this chaos, there is a very good story, a human heart that beats inside a robot out smart the giant "Skynet"
it was a wild ride from start to finished.
